Students from the Social and Political Activism Club (SPAC) at Pelham Memorial High School (PMHS) have organized the first political march in Pelham history. Their goal as patriotic Americans is to celebrate the rights and values of anyone feeling disenfranchised, unwelcome, or unsafe in our country, ie. women, immigrants, refugees, racial and religious minorities, the LGBTQ community. We also march to affirm our constitutional rights to freedom of speech and expression, free press and peaceful assembly, access to public education and medical care, protection of the environment, civil rights and equal protection for all under the law. This is a march for positivity, unity, and inclusivity.
Confirmed speakers include State Rep Amy Paulin; State Senator Jeff Klein; Vice Chair of the Westchester County Board of Legislators Jim Maisano; and Village of Pelham Mayor Michael Volpe. They will be joined by representatives from local organizations including EcoPel, Indivisible Westchester, #OURFLAG, and Hearts and Homes for Refugees. Several of the PMHS student organizers will also speak.
